Valentine's Day at the Record Shop

Overview

This is a personal project I did for 2023 Valentine's Day. The goal is to showcase different types of people on Valentine's Day, to deliver a whimsical image to everyone on Valentine's Day, regardless of their relationship status.

Solution

I decided to illustrate on an isometric grid for an overhead view, this creates a feeling that the audience is overlooking the scene. This adds to the whimsical feeling of the illustration, making the subjects look almost toy–like.

For the theme, I chose the location to be a record shop. This allows for many details on the CD designs, the details of the lines also contrasts with the simplicity of the characters.

I chose to use mostly red tones for the colour scheme, not only is the colour red often associated with Valentine's Day, it also creates a warm and cozy atmosphere.

Results

This illustration is posted online and has received positive feedback. It is later sold as a print.
